Cultivating Resilience for BIPOC
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color in order to participate?
Yes. This class is specifically for people who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color (BIPOC). If this doesn’t describe you, please see our other offerings at Center of the Heart, or email us at info@centeroftheheart.org .
What if I don’t know how to meditate?
Welcome! No experience meditating is needed to participate. I love working with beginners! Meditation can be such a useful tool to support our well-being and resilience. This class is open to beginners, as well as people with years of experience.
What if I’m an advanced meditation practitioner?
Welcome! This class offers you an opportunity to deepen your meditation practice, and not just theoretically think about the collective, but actually interact with other participants to support building collective resilience.
How long will we meditate?
In each class, I will guide you through 20 minutes of meditation. If you’re new, don’t worry. Many people say afterwards that the time flies by a lot quicker than you might think.
Where will we meet?
This class will be online, using Zoom. After registering, you will be emailed a different Zoom link for each session.
If possible, try to choose a space that is private and quiet to support being able to focus, relax, and feel comfortable speaking during the discussion time. I realize that practically speaking, this may not be possible. But try your best to create an environment that will support your time in meditation.

Will you offer practical tools to make it easier for me to increase my resilience?
Yes. This series includes practical tools to support you in increasing both your individual and collective resilience.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
It’s helpful to have:
Water/something to drink
Journal/paper and pen. I will be inviting participants to reflect, and it can be helpful to jot down ideas. While many of us are used to typing online, sometimes it’s helpful to take a break and use handwriting again.
A chair or cushion that is comfortable to sit on
A blanket or anything to support your being warm. Your body temperature sometimes drops a little when you meditate.
What’s your cancellation policy?
The first session is free.
If you register for the package of sessions 2, 3, and 4, then workshop registration must be canceled 24 hours before session #2 start time, in order to receive a refund minus the credit card payment processing fees.
Anything else I need to prepare?
If you have housemates, you might want to let them know ahead of time that you’re planning to be in a meditation class, so that they know to try not to disturb you.
