Dr. Russell Siler Jones, ThD, LCMHCS is author of Spirit in Session: Working with Your Client's Spirituality (and Your Own) in Psychotherapy. Russell is a psychotherapist in Asheville, NC, Director of CareNet/Wake Forest Baptist Health’s Residency in Psychotherapy and Spirituality, and Developer of ACPE’s Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy Program. Russell will be interviewed by his co-instructor Pamela Ayo Yetunde. Here is an excerpt from Spirit in Session:

Perhaps most importantly, Pargament asserts that while some people end up healthier and experience a greater sense of wellbeing as a result of their spiritual struggles --their struggles become an occasion for growth -- sometimes the opposite happens. And one of the key predictors of whether spiritual struggles become occasions for growth or decline is the kind of support persons receive in the midst of their struggles. That's where you come in. Even though you might not see yourself as a spiritual expert, you may be the only person your clients feel safe speaking to about their spiritual struggles (p. 110).

Templeton Press is offering a 40% discount code on the book, December 1 through January 10: https://www.templetonpress.org/books/spirit-session Use SPIRIT2020 at checkout. (SPIRIT needs to be in all caps.)

Rev. SeiFu is an ordained Zen Buddhist priest, as well as a practicing spiritual director/companion and motivational speaker. He is a veteran of numerous interfaith and interspiritual efforts over the years, including Seeds of Compassion in Seattle in 2008, where he was one of the chairs, and as founder and executive director of the Compassionate Action Network. He has a Master’s in Theological Studies from Harvard University.

Pamela Ayo Yetunde, ThD, is a pastoral counselor and chaplain, and author of Object Relations, Buddhism, and Relationality in Womanist Practical Theology, and Black and Buddhist. Ayo is the founder of Audre: Spiritual Care for Women with Cancer, and co-founder of Center of the Heart (www.centeroftheheart.org). Together, Russell, SeiFu, and Ayo will explore the intersections and arts of spiritually integrated accompaniment, chaplaincy, counseling, and psychotherapy for those who find themselves wanting to be more skilled in identifying implicit spiritual concerns and better resourced in appropriate counseling interventions.

This conversation is for chaplains, counselors, spiritual directors, and those who find themselves confronted with life's challenging questions in listening encounters.

Russell and Ayo will co-teach the Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP) course in 2021. For more information about the course, please visit Details about ACPE's Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy Program. To register for their course, email Russell at russell@silerjonescounseling.com or Ayo at ayo@centeroftheheart.org.
